Overview


NYSUT is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Merchandising Manager to oversee the sourcing, procurement, and management of branded merchandise for our online store and promotional initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven record in product sourcing, vendor management, inventory control and e-commerce best practices. You will work directly with outside printers and vendors to secure estimates, timelines, design proofs and all other materials needed to complete jobs. You will also be responsible for supervising certain department staff. The Manager of Merchandising & E-Commerce will report directly to Director of Communications.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive merchandising strategy aligned with our brand identity and target audiences.
  • Work with internal stakeholders — design team, senior management and departments/offices — to design and develop unique, appealing branded merchandise that resonates with NYSUT’s members.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders and offices across the organization to ensure proper adherence to brand standards and to fill all product orders.
  • Research, identify, and use independent judgment to establish relationships with reliable vendors and suppliers to source high-quality, cost-effective branded merchandise.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors to ensure timely and efficient procurement of goods.
  • Oversee the NYSUT online store, including ensuring products are properly displayed and marketed and customer service channels are optimized.
  • Manage inventory levels, forecast demand, and ensure optimal stock levels to meet needs.
  • Monitor sales performance, analyze trends, and generate reports to make data- driven decisions for merchandise planning and optimization.
  • Oversee the quality control process to ensure all merchandise meets our brand standards and expectations for quality.
  • Manage multiple long- and short-term creative projects simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction.
  • Independently supervise other NYSUT staff members within the department.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, fashion merchandising, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in merchandising, sourcing, or procurement, preferably in the e-commerce or retail industry.
  • Management experience is required, management experience in a union setting is preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain positive vendor relationships.
  • Experience with union-produced products and unionized vendors a plus.
  • Proficient with e-commerce website design and platform management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient in inventory management software, MS Office suite.
  • Understanding of graphic design and branded product design best-practices.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Creative mindset and a keen eye for emerging trends and merchandising opportunities.
  • Familiarity with e-commerce best practices and the ability to integrate with various stakeholders across the organization.
